The More Things Change ....

Reading Robert D. Richardson, Jr.'s biography of Ralph Waldo Emerson: Emerson: The Mind on Fire. 

Today I looked up the place in Boston where Emerson was born on Google Street View.

On the corner of Summer and Chauncy. There is a Macy's there now. 

On page 18 of my paperback copy, Richardson notes that "Emerson remembered that as a child he had felt 'imprisoned in streets and hindered from the fields and woods.'"
